Egypt

The climate of Egypt is mainly hot and dry. Apart from the Valley of the River Nil, which runs through the country from south to north, it consists entirely of desert.

In the summer, the temperature often reaches 45 degrees Celsius in the south of the country, and 30 degrees Celsius in the north.

In winter, the weather is cooler, and along the north coast it is often cloudy, with occasional rain.

In Cairo it rains on average for three days in a year, and in the south of Egypt rain is almost unknown. There are often gentle breezes from the north throughout the year, except during March and April, when a hot, dusty wind blows from the south.

Species of Dinosaurs

Two new species of dinosaurs, one a quick-moving meat-eater and the other a giant-planteater, have been discovered in Antarctica. The 70 million-year-old fossil of the carnivore would have rested for milleniums at the bottom of the Antarctic Sea, while the remains of the 30-meterlong plant-eater were found on the top of a mountain.

The little carnivore – about 1.8 meters tall – was found on James Ross Island, off the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Not yet named, the animal probably floated out to the sea after it died and settled to the bottom of what was then a shallow area of the Weddell Sea. Its bones and teeth suggest it may represent a population of two-legged carnivores that survived in the Antarctic long after other predators took over elsewhere on the globe. “For whatever reason, they were still hanging out on the Antarctic continent,” Case said in a statement.

A second team led by William Hammer of Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, found the 200 million-year-old plant-eater’s fossils on a mountaintop 13,000 feet (3,900 meters) high near the Beardmore Glacier. Now known as Mt. Kirk Patrick, the area was once a soft riverbed.

The Use of Seat Belts

Nowadays, in Indonesia the police have been applying the new regulation concerning the use of seat belts. In European countries, this regulation has been applied for a long time. However, this new regulation has become controversial and is an inter-esting topic to discuss. Here are some of the argu-ments.

The use of the seat belts has been proven to re-duce the risk of injury or death in an accident. Seat belts have become a standard component in cars.

The research shows that most car accidents will cause an injury to the head. Frequently, drivers or the passengers driving without seat belts die be-cause of this. By wearing seat belts, the injury will not happen since the seat belts restrain our body on the car seat when the accident happens.

Unfortunately, many cars, especially the old ones, don’t have seat belts.

This is because the traffic conditions in the past were unlike the recent traffic conditions. The de-signer of old cars didn’t consider a seat belt as an important part. Beside, the drivers wearing the seat belts will think that they are completely safe, so they may drive carelessly. They are safe, indeed, but how about the safety of others?

The seat belt is only one of the ways to reduce the risks of car accidents. It doesn’t mean that we are completely safe. In short, our safety depends on ourselves.
